while i prefer longer threads , most of mine usually start out as one liners . i use double space and small font with 60x50 static icons . i’m not too picky about how you format ! i just prefer my partners use gif icons / static icons as the larger gifs tend to mess up themes . i also do not like titles being used for threads since i can’t delete them and they can be an eyesore !

BIOGRAPHY

feel like making a deal with the devil ?

𝐍𝐈𝐊𝐎𝐋𝐀𝐒 𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍 was raised a low level mobster’s son for a division of the romanian mafia set in bucharest, romania. from the young age of five years old he had been introduced to the rough life, regardless of how hard his mother tried to prevent it from happening - the young boy only found himself obsessed by the lifestyle , often striving to use it as a means to protect himself in the future from the likes of his abusive father . it didn’t seem so bad to nikolas, however, as he found herself admiring the older boys that were involved working as runners for the organization. the lifestyle gave him a story to tell, it made him popular with the other kids, and gave him the determination to fight for everything that he ever wanted, especially as he grew older. it was the life he believed he wanted. though, as everything often did , however, it ended up taking a turn for the worse.

nikolas was sixteen years old when a new family came into his neighborhood, moved in right next door overnight. the couple had been married, and quickly formed a friendship with his parents. however, niko did not know who they were, he had no reason to be suspicious until one day the couple (their names, something he never caught—even if their faces would remain etched in his mind forever) had come over to dinner, something seemingly so innocent and while the teenage nikolas was in bed, he heard the struggles—heard the sounds of his mother calling out to her son, telling him to run. as curious as he was , of course , he ran to see what was happening , only to find his father brutally murdered at the base of the stairs , and his mother’s form , limp and desperate to climb up to demand he run once more .

so he did, the boy; sixteen years old fled the house, leaving the assassinated bodies of his parents behind with two murderers fresh on his tail. taking refuge with the head of the ‘family’, nikolas traded his life for protection, in turn working for the crime family, doing dirty work for them, ‘roughing up’ witnesses, making sure people kept their mouths shut, and quickly excelled at his job - earning him a position close to viktor dobrescu, the ‘patriarch’. this position allowed him to be considered the right hand to the mobster’s position , his most trusted asset and with it , niko learned the ins and outs of the organization making him a valuable weapon … and a dangerous yet necessary target if things were to implode .

the law caught up to nikolas however - when he was barely twenty five, when one of the jobs handed to him ended up dead and while refusing to roll over on his boss, or face persecution – he fled without a word to anyone knowing well that the mob would be coming for him . certain the police would catch him if he didn’t act fast, nikolas fled the country, and over the span of several years hid out in hostels , making random friends along the way all over the continent until he booked a flight across the ocean to the united states where he changed his name, and in turn - his life after leaving all that he knew behind. going by the name nicholas peters he moved from state to state for years, picking up odd jobs until finally finding a haven in chicago illinois after he was offered a job doing what he knows best – working in a private sector of security firm. while doing everything in his power to distance himself from the young man he used to be – nikolas lost his romanian lineage and otherwise remains below the radar , certain that one day the ‘family’ will come looking for him again, and make him pay for abandoning them, even so many years later .

now , in the present , nikolas petran works for a company called EQUINOX . a dangerous mercenary company that hides beneath the guise of private security . comparable to blackwater they are infamous for their black ops work across the globe as they complete underground missions for the country , private investors and other governments as well . niko is in charge of his own team of mercenaries working out of equinox and is well known for his ruthless capability to get the job done no matter what the cost .

PERSONALITY

beneath a shroud of stoic behavior is a man well versed in the way the world works . thanks to his upbringing , niko has grown to understand that in order to survive in this world one must sit at the top of the foodchain . such an understanding has made him driven , while loyal to those above him ( unless they have given reason for his betrayal ) by default , he strives to be in control . because of this , he keeps himself protected by a wall of not only secrecy but distance from those that long to get close to him . with that said he is the type that once someone gets past the wall he’s built over the years — he will sacrifice himself for them no matter what .

niko sits on a morally gray setting , knowing very well that the road to hell is paved with good intentions and understands the makings of a snake . he is not someone to be taken lightly as beneath all of his charms he is a vicious monster of a man ( verse dependent ) who is known to be quite merciless when need be and is just as cunning as he is handsome . he will spend time tearing apart those that are a threat to him in order to figure out the best way to destroy them and will not hold back by any means . beneath all of that , however , he is not a sociopath and uses his cruelty and monstrous self design as a means to protect himself . when he has fallen for someone , he is known to do anything that he can to understand , anticipate their next move

VERSES

THE MAFIA BOSS

𝐁𝐎𝐑𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐔𝐋𝐂𝐄𝐀 𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐀, nikolas petran was raised the middle child of three by two parents, vivianna and adrian petran. their humble abode set deep in the city may have seemed perfect to the naked eye, however, underneath it darkness played a part. both parents were members of the romanian mafia, the father, a soldier close to the don and the mother ( a doctor ) worked as a medic when needed, which in their life was often.

son to an abusive alcoholic of a father, niko glued to his mother’s hip growing up, often finding himself protecting his younger sister and in turn, being protected by his older brother, as the pair were absolutely inseparable. at his mother’s side he learned a softness that was immeasurable to all things, from his father, he learned how to shut down his emotions, his guard becoming his strongest aspect.

niko was ten years old when the petrans fled the grasps of the romanian mob, a mockery in hopes that they would be able to find themselves a better life in the united states, and moved on to sacremento california – where they already had some family waiting. what the petrans did not realize was that they had gotten themselves wrapped up in another mob war, this one between the two vicious organizations in which adrian petran aligned himself with the head of one and his family , another side of the romanian mob in hopes of protecting his family and his own sense of greed

and so, nikolas, his sister and brother grew up alongside the dobrescu family, niko’s dark fascination with life and how people worked immeasurable as he began to learn everything that he could from the mob soldiers he would meet when they visited upon the estate which was often. it was promised that niko too would become a soldier for the mob himself, when he was old enough, a fact that his mother did not approve of, but his father — in all of his glory — supported.

that is, until the day that changed niko’s life forever, and the entire petran family. he was sixteen years old when his parents were murdered, sixteen years old and his sister was at a sleepover to their own luck, when he heard his mother screaming for him to run away - instead he ran to his parents’ dying frames.

sixteen year old nikolas petran ran from his home and straight to the door of the one man he felt he could trust, young and aspiring leader to the very organization he’d grown to admire, niko appeared covered in his mother’s blood, begging for protection — and they gave it to him. the dobrescu family took niko in, his uncle, having witnessed the path niko was on, longed for something different for his niece, took his younger sister under his care, throwing nikolas to the wolves.

from there, niko learned the way of the mob from the inside out, training on how to kill, how to be an adept killer, to hone his already apt ability to understand the inner workings of an already successful organization and before long he worked his way close to the dobrescu family side, a monster that wore a charming smile and elusive draw as a shield to protect those he knew.

that is ——- until word hit him at nineteen years old, his parents death was not just a random act of mob violence but the call of viktor dobrescu himself, eager to prove himself as the young leader of the organization, taking down the two members of the petran family, sadistically taking in the son of those he murdered. and that was niko’s final straw.

with that, he left the mob, robbing them of funds from viktor’s personal vault and fled from the city , finding himself a home in chicago with another mob family offering them a partial of the cash for his own safety, something they graciously accepted and for the first time in the years since his mother was brutally slaughtered, niko found himself at home.

over the course of five years, niko had worked his way up the ranks with rapid succession, having been a powerful weapon for dobrescu beforehand, his knowledge of an enemy organization helped him earn a close spot to the elder italian leader’s side, the second in command to the man he’d grown fond of, even respected enough to remain there on his deathbed — in which the mantle was passed on to him at the young age of twenty five, something unheard of, but nonetheless niko took the position as leader and plotted his revenge against the dobrescus, not necessarily for the death of his parents, but for fooling him into believing they were family when he too was on their hit list at one point in time.

with that , he returned to california , leaving chicago behind and vengeance in his heart with the full backing of another mob family at his side and slaughtered the dobrescu family for their wrongdoing —– and in the end took over the enemy organization once and for all . now running the california side of the romanians and taking down the italians in chicago for the sake of his own gain without any consideration for the destruction left in his wake .

PESTILENCE

𝐍𝐈𝐊𝐎𝐋𝐀𝐒 𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐁𝐎𝐑𝐍 𝐀 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐁𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑 𝐎𝐅 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 . born in the cold outskirts of romania in the family home , his mother passed away in childbirth , leaving his father furious , drunk and pointing the blame towards a young thoughtfully innocent niko .

what nobody knew , of course , was that everything niko touched — disease would follow . his own father suffered from a horrific tumor on the lung that spread throughout the body but there had previously been zero signs of cancer in the family .

constantly being around the young boy was slowly killing the already irate drunk of a father and with that anger his own sickness seemed to flourish and niko was naive to the idea that he was making his own father sick with his hatred .

years pass and as does his father , the disease is irreversible and it delivered an incredibly slow , painful death for the man leaving niko an orphan at only fourteen years old .with that , he grew up in a small sokovian orphanage run by nuns who would often tease him for his constant ability to be healthy . that is —– until one day one of the younger children at the orphanage grew sick , a close near sibling like figure to niko and he mourned —- assuming she would die just as his father did . he didn’t realize that it was ultimately his fault that the young girl caught remnants of an age old plague , something not seen in the country for one hundred years or more .

the little girl passed and the nuns prayed to god , realizing the uprise in sickness that spread through their orphanage , how some of the children would survive , but many of them wouldn’t . all but the lonesome boy nikolas petran , who was as healthy as ever . they began to believe they held in their quarters the soul of one of the four horsemen , pestilence .

their hearts too pure to simply kick the boy to the curb , they locked niko in a quarantine room and simply prayed that the other three wouldn’t be coming for them as well . once he was eighteen however , they couldn’t keep him in isolation , and the now somewhat twisted nikolas petran was released to the world . that was when he’d heard about a sanctuary city , where many others like him lived and thrived . he’d never quite intended on becoming the villain of this story , but society ostracized him far too many times for him to be forgiving . onto his work as a mercenary , he works for a company called equinox who will often give him targets to make seemingly innocent deaths occur at his hand . beyond that though , he is a soldier for them working with a team of people that do not have powers — though they are often switched out often to avoid their own sickness .

nikolas petran comes not only from an abusive home life , but an abusive orphanage as well , because of this he often comes off as aloof , carefree in the feelings of others and at times cruel .

paranoid by default , he has an addictive personality which has gotten him involved in many things , including drugs and other dangerous habits .
he prefers to keep his distance from others , as people discover that he not only causes disease but can take them away as well —- he would rather not become one of those walking preachers ‘healing the ill ’. especially considering there is one trick . not only does he feel the pain of the disease he absorbs , but he cannot heal a sickness or ailment that he placed upon someone and that disease will only strengthen the longer they are near him .

he is very controlled , emotionally as he’s found it’s the only way to be around people without hurting them , or spreading a sickness at this point in his life he can make physical contact with someone without gloves if need be and not hurt them … hopefully .

the truth is , however , niko spent so much time cut off from not only society but emotions as well that it doesn’t bother any longer when others get sick from being around him . i’m going to reiterate this , nikolas petran is cruel by nature , if he infects someone he has no problems sitting there and watching to make sure the job is done .

PIANIST

this verse is an off - shoot of niko’s main mercenary verse where instead of being raised by viktor dobrescu , he is raised instead by his brother and the changes that happen due to this small shift in dynamic for him .

growing up , however , he’d opted to live and be raised by his older brother who took him across the world where he began to study the things he loved the most , the piano . with talent unquestionable , nikolas rose to stardom , and eventually once his brother got a job in the united states , was able to study in julliard where he found a love for new york city and longed to stay , but knew that he would have to return home eventually in order to further better his talent .

by the age of twenty four he was a well known concert pianist , playing in venues all over the world and the country and while asked where his talent and favor for music comes from he always remembers that it comes from his pain of finding his parents dead on the ground in their home .

DYSTOPIA BASED VERSES

ALTERED CARBON : the ghost envoy

a product of harlan’s world , nikolas petran grew up in the shadows of takeshi kovacs , from his time growing up to the days when he decided to join the elite envoys . sleeves ever changing , niko believed that he’d succeeded in his mission , a top tier agent his best work was always done in the shadows leaving him a ghost even among those that worked at his side . when the envoys fell it was only ever assumed that nikolas petran fell too --- but in fact he’d been resleeved , a copy of the very face he was born with created by an infamous mob boss looking to have an envoy at his side . years passed , and soon that mob boss met real death leaving nikolas petran to take his throne where he began to run his own criminal underworld in harlan’s world and where he still stands powerful today .

DIVISION

nikolas petran was eighteen years old when he was caught running hits for the romanian mafia . facing a life sentence , division’s higher ups swept him under the rug using a fake poisoning agent and made it out to look as if he was nothing more than a victim of his old boss cleaning house . when he awakens within the division training grounds he meets his handler , and soon rises up the ranks to graduate into a special sector of division called a cleaner , making him an ample choice to be one of the holders of percy’s black boxes due to his ability to stay out of the shadows from such a young age .

a soldier of the darkling’s personal guard , nikolas petran is a heartrender and a powerful one . lacking much empathy for those that aren’t grisha he remains on the side of the darkling even after the civil war begins however , it is uncertain what really goes through the soldier’s mind as he is always planning , plotting something to put himself on top .

1940's : post ww2 soldier

𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝟏𝟗𝟒𝟎𝐒 . nikolas petran was the son of an immigrant , having come to the united states when he was only ten years old in order to build a new life in the country whose streets were paved in gold . growing up , niko was raised in a modest lifestyle by a factory worker and a homemaker however at the tender age of sixteen both of his parents succumbed to tuberculosis and niko spent the next year growing up in an orphanage built for those that had lost their families to the dangerous health crisis .

at the age of seventeen , niko , as a means of getting away from the orphanage enlisted in the military after world war one , during the supposed peace between nations . however , it’s in 1941 that the war effort has been forced upon them and the united states gears up for war once again after the attack on pearl harbor . with that , niko fought on the front lines overseas —– and his life as he knew it , changed .

it was an attack upon enemy forces in which niko was taken prisoner by their enemy . tortured for some time after the war even ended —— and the rest of the world believed the orphan boy to be dead . that is , until news hit of a released prisoner , part of a secret government agreement made and his return was a supposed glorious one though the remains of his life were … not quite the same .

nikolas petran served , and in return was brought home with severe ptsd and permanent damage done to his leg , forcing him to use a cane for the rest of his life . doctors , without understanding of soldiers’ ailments at the time sent him on his way and he coped the only way he knew how — isolation .

after some time , niko got around to opening a bar in the heart of new york city out of an old speakeasy which he converted to an old veterans bar where people could go and have a good drink or two and stay in one of the rooms connected to the bar if they didn’t have anywhere else to go , while he lived above the bar , constantly in a battle to sort out his head .

SERGHEI PETRAN

the eldest brother of the petran siblings , serghei left his home town after their parents' deaths , after offering his brother to go along with him . however , niko refused , too enamoured by the criminal enterprise to turn his back on it . with that , he changed his name in hopes of leaving the petran history behind forever , eventually working his way up through the ranks of the fbi .

niko's relationship with his brother is catastrophically strained , often feeling as if he was abandoned by serghei . he'd always longed for his brother to stick around , fulfill their family legacy but it's not until niko is well in power within his own organization that the brothers connect again . eventually , niko asks serghei to be his second in command , to stand at his side just as they'd always been --- but the two still continue to bump heads .

ANASTASIA PETRAN

the youngest of the three petran siblings , she spent her life under the protection of her two brothers , whether that be from the abuse of their father , or when she began to live with their aunt and uncle after the deaths of their parents . having lived her own life as well , one that was filled with a dangerous level of heartache and catastrophe , anastasia returned home in hopes of reuniting the family and stands at her brother's side within the organization .

niko is still very overprotective of his sister , while fully admitting that she has grown into her own woman . oftentimes she is the more temperamental of the three petrans and plenty of times has brought her own level of drama into niko's organization due to her sporadic moves . however , she is an open ear for niko and someone he confides in most anything and he is well aware that she would do anything for their family and while he questions her actions , he often has to check himself to his own dealings when he was moving through the waves of the organization .
